US Files Criminal Charges Against Smartphone Maker Huawei

The US officials have filed criminal charges against the Chinese tech giant Huawei as they have been attempting to steal the technology used by the US carrier and also US business partners – T-Mobile, in a robot called Tappy that is used to test mobile phones. There is also a second indictment that claims that the company worked to skirt US sanctions on Iran.

The allegations are that Huawei has been filed with two cases and also promising bonuses to the employees who collected the confidential information for competitors. Formal charges have been raised against Meng Wenzhou, Huawei’s chief financial officer and she got arrested a few weeks ago in December last year.

A lawyer involved in action against Huawei in the US also said that the fact that Wilbur Ross was at the press conference indicates that the US might put Huawei on the export control list. The US companies have also been banned from exporting to Huawei since its reliance on US software and microchips is high.

Furthermore, the stocks in China has gone down after the filling of the charges and declines on Wall Street on Monday. The FBI Director Christopher Wray has also said that Huawei relied on dishonest business practices that contradict the economic principles that have allowed American companies and the US to thrive.

The Chinese company said that it is disappointed by the move from the US to bring charges against it and it also denies that it or its subsidiary have committed any of the asserted violations of US law set forth in each of the indictments. The Chinese government also reacted angrily to the charges and accused the US of using its state power to smear and target Chinese companies to kill their legal business operations.
