Google’s Gmail Gets New Material Design Overhaul, Updates Rolling Out Soon

Google has seen the major redesign across its apps and services when they have launched their Material design theme, back in 2014, with its Android Lollipop 5.0. Since then Google had gradually adapted to their new theme for its services’ web and as well as mobile app versions. Last year, Google’s Gmail service saw a significant new material design overhaul, which made the service more appealing and the newly introduced smart machine learning reply algorithms were a bonus.

And, finally, Mountain View’s Search Engine giant has decided to bring the same design overhaul to the mobile versions of Gmail as well. The much-awaited update to the mobile version of Gmail has started rolling out across Android devices for now, according to Google. And, hopefully, iOS update also rolls out soon. As we already have been used to the newer web client of Gmail, the mobile experience will most likely be the same with all the latest design changes.

The design overhaul to mobile client Gmail brings in some noticeable changes to the table. Firstly, the persistent Red bar on the top has been removed, which is now replaced by a persistent search bar, which is in White and looks much cleaner. Matching the web client, users get the new view density preferences, wherein you can select different modes that include – Default, Comfortable and Compact. If you want a quick look with the emails with attachments, you can set it to the default view, or if you are flooded with emails regularly, then you can opt to compact view – with which you can have a glance at more emails. The font on the overall Gmail app has also been replaced with Google Sans, which admittedly looks best.

We have found that the new Gmail redesign looks appealing with much cleaner interface (mostly white) and colorful as well. The new Material Design themed Gmail also gets machine learning algorithm that brings you Smart Replies within the mail. You will even notice big red warnings as well if you come across a spam or phishing emails. The new Gmail redesign is much satisfying, and we recommend you to keep checking the Google Play Store for the much needed Gmail update. If you are curious to try out the new Gmail before the official rollout, you can head over to APKMirror site here and download and install it manually. Stay tuned to PhoneRadar for more interesting updates.
