Sony Xperia 1 with 4K OLED 21:9 Display & Snapdragon 855 SoC Launched

Smartphones these days are all about screens, the first noticeable a consumer is noticing these in a smartphone is screen and how big it is without at any distraction, like a notch or a punch-hole display, for instance. At MWC, Sony is trying to stand out with the same screen aspect by introducing new 21:9 display smartphones. The Xperia line-up, which has been struggling to top the sales charts for a while now, has newly launched its latest flagship – the Xperia 1 smartphone. It is presumably the first phone to feature a 4K OLED display with a new 21:9 aspect ratio. To recall, Sony was the first to feature a 2K display on its earlier released Xperia devices as well.

We have seen smartphones shifting from 16:9 to 18:9 to 19:9 aspect ratios and Sony has added the new 21:9 ratio to the bandwagon. What this means is that smartphones are about to become taller and taller and these Sony devices are supposedly the first devices to feature the respective ratio. Sony had unveiled its flagship Xperia 1 and had also unveiled its new mid-range smartphones – the Sony Xperia 10 and 10 Plus, which all come with 21:9 displays.

As for the flagship is concerned, the Xperia 1 features a 6.5-inch 4K HDR OLED display in 21:9 ratio that makes the device look much more taller and there’s a noticeable bezel on the top for beholding the front-facing camera and sensor; however, there’s no bezel at the bottom and makes the screen edge-to-edge at bottom. Apart from the tall display, the Xperia 1 packs in the industry’s top-of-the-line specifications as well. It is powered by the latest Snapdragon 855 SoC followed by 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage, which also supports microSD expansion.

As for the cameras, the Xperia 1 features triple 12MP cameras on the rear that comprise of a wide, super-wide and telephoto lenses. On the front, the device features an 8MP selfie shooter. The phone is said to be shipping with Android 9.0 Pie out-of-the-box, and lastly, the Xperia 1 is kept alive by a 3300mAh battery. The price of the flagship Xperia 1 is yet to be known and is believed to be sold in the US in the late spring. So, what do you think of the new Xperia 1 flagship smartphone?
