Now Secure Your WhatsApp Chats With Fingerprint or Face ID, iOS Update Rolling Out Soon

If you like to you chats to be more private then Facebook-owned messaging service WhatsApp has good news for you. The 1.2Billion users’ powered service is soon to get more secure with additional authentication. In the upcoming WhatsApp update, users can secure their conversations with their respective fingerprint or face authentication. This is similar to how they currently unlock their smartphones.

According to WaBetainfo, the WhatsApp messaging service is currently testing this authentication feature with iOS through Apple’s TestFlight beta program. The recent beta update – 2.19.20.13 has revealed this much-anticipated feature, which is soon going to be rolled out officially with the next update bearing 2.19.20 update version. The new authentication can be enabled via Screen Lock feature that can be found in Privacy Settings on your WhatsApp. For the latest iPhone users, i.e. iPhone X users and above can enable this with their Face ID authentication system, iPhone models before iPhone X also have their respective Touch ID feature for WhatsApp chats authentication feature.

After enabling, users are now required to use their respective Face ID or Touch ID for unlocking their WhatsApp conversations. However, users can still reply to messages from notifications panel and answer calls, despite WhatsApp being locked. Furthermore, users can set time intervals for enabling the authentication, wherein it can be configured from 1minute to 1 hour or immediately as well. Similar to your phone’s screen lock, if WhatsApp fails to detect your authentication, users can still enter their’s phone’s passcode.

The report further suggests that these fingerprint/facial data isn’t stored on the WhatsApp server and is said to be safe for users’ privacy. The next update for iOS update is soon going to roll out for iPhone users. We can expect Android users might also get this feature as soon as possible.
